We headed for home from Utah this morning. Our goal, to reach Independence Rock before nightfall. Back when the settlers traveled west, the rule was for them to reach the rock by the 4th of July, or risk being caught in the mountains. Well, we made it, and a day early (yes, I realize we are heading east). Syd wondered a little why a stop at a large rock, but hey, it's history with a story we told her. She and Tony even spent a little time climbing the rock...hiker Sydney is not. Oh, and we are not homesick after this stop, as the mosquitoes almost carried us away as we hiked around the rock.
